Celebration of Life Service - Bernice Walker
Long time First UMC member, Bernice Walker, joined the Church Triumphant on Wednesday June 25. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, July 8, at 10:00am, in the Sanctuary. Please be in prayer for her family and friends. May God comfort them in their grief.
Introducing Pastor Corey Shirey

Rev. Corey Shirey moved to Stillwater this week. Our SPRC welcomed him with Hideaway Pizza on Tuesday evening. He traveled with the youth to serve at the OKC Food Bank on Wednesday. This Sunday, July 6, he’ll be leading Communion in all three services. If you are in town, please plan to join us for worship. Our SPRC Chairperson, Ivan Hughes, will offer a special welcome to Pastor Corey as he comes to serve among us.
Here's a litte bit about Pastor Corey:
The best book he’s read in the last twelve months? Anticipating Heaven Below by Dr. Hal Knight. Click Here if you want to know more about it.
How much time does he spend on social media each week? Too much, he says. “Scrolling through Instagram and TikTok takes far too much of my downtime, but I just can't stop watching funny pet videos! Feel free to send me a friend request on Facebook.”
What is his favorite part of ministry? “Seeing the moment where Jesus becomes ‘real’ for the very first time in someone's life. It truly is a miraculous moment.”
He is active in leadership for our Annual Conference. He currently serves on the Episcopacy Committee (the equivalent of an SPRC for our Bishop.) He has also served on the Conference Board of Higher Education & Campus Ministry. He was a delegate to the 2024 Jurisdictional Conference and a reserve delegate to the 2024 General Conference. He has co-led the youth program for Oklahoma MissionU for the last several years.
He’s looking for referrals - Who serves the best sweet tea and iced coffee in town? Where should he take his dog to play fetch? Where should he go for live music?
You can email him your answers at cshirey@fumcstw.org
Let’s welcome Pastor Corey into our life together this Sunday!

A Heartfelt Thank You
We want to extend a big and heartfelt thank you to some of our Stillwater First UMC family who stepped up to help prepare the church parsonage on August Street for the arrival of our new Associate Pastor, Rev. Corey Shirey.
A special thanks goes out to Ivan Hughes and Sabrina Jones for their assistance in packing up Pastor Cindy as she prepared for her next chapter. Their support was invaluable during this transition. We are also grateful to the Trustees for their detailed planning and organization in assessing all the necessary upgrades and improvements at the parsonage. Their foresight laid the groundwork for a smooth transition. Much appreciation goes to Rex Largent, Mark Whitfield, and Mike Chaffin, who put in hands-on work by replacing part of the privacy fence and removing old fencing - touches that made a big difference in creating a welcoming space. A big shoutout to our Facility Manager, David Lane, along with Austin Thrasher, Maintenance Custodian, for their help in preparing the parsonage. Their work behind the scenes made a major impact. And last but certainly not least, thank you to our amazing Youth, who brought energy and care in cleaning up the flowerbeds and adding new mulch. Their hard work truly improved the curb appeal.
To everyone who gave their time, skills, and love during this effort - thank you! Your dedication shows what it means to be a church family, and we are so grateful for the way you helped put our best foot forward in welcoming Pastor Corey to his new home.

Youth Serve at OKC Food Bank
Wednesday afternoon, 12 youth, Janelda, Gabe, Gina Heim, and our new Associate Pastor, Rev. Corey Shirey, spent the afternoon in OKC serving at the Regional Food Bank. They helped pack bags of frozen peas that contributed to over 2000 meals! We are so thankful for these youth and adults who gave up their afternoon to volunteer.
