Weekend Food Sacks for Children Project

Image goes here.

The goal of this project is to provide a weekend supplemental food sack to every Stillwater student identified by the school system as hungry. The second goal is for the children to experience the care and love of others. Our church has taken the leadership role to facilitate this project for almost 16 years with great community support from churches, civic groups, and individuals who have contributed to this project.

During the 2016-17 school year, we provided an average of 475 sacks per week for a total of 1,900 sacks per 4-week period.
Schools receiving food sacks included: Early Head Start, Head Start, Highland Park, Richmond, Sangre Ridge, Skyline, Westwood, Will Rogers, the Junior High, and Lincoln Academy.
Total Cost and Averages for the 2016-17 school year were:
Total Number of Food Sacks per 4-Week Period - 1,900   (475 per week)
Total Number of Food Sacks for September through May, 2017 - 17,100

Average Cost per 4-Week Period - $9,063
Average Cost per Week - $2,265.75
Total Cost of Food for September through May, 2017 - $81,567
Average Cost per Sack for 2016/2017 - $4.77

Since 2012, the total number of sacks distributed per school year has increased from 6,835 to 17,100.  Considering this increase, anticipated costs and numbers for the 2017/2018 school year are expected to remain at least the same or to be increased.

How can you participate?
  1. Join the monthly assembly line to fill the food sacks. If you or your group is interested in assisting in this capacity, please contact Linda Blum at (405) 564-0859 or to schedule a date. Generally, all of the sacks for a 4-week period are sacked on the first Saturday morning or Wednesday evening of the month.

  3.  Serve as a financial supporter. Financial questions can be answered by Nancy Allford at or 405-255-0135. Checks can be made to FUMC with “children food sacks” noted on the memo line.
  4.  Serve as a prayer partner, focusing on the safety of God’s arms around each child as they leave school on Fridays at 2:50 p.m.

This project is under the umbrella of the Missions Commission.
